Karen Arnold
The Innovator
When Karen says, “ I have an Idea!” - the rest of the team tremble
with anticipation...
Karen left school with little qualifications and considered herself
a low level academic, bright but lazy. Karen herself explains that
she spent her entire school life trying to escape and the whole of
her adult life trying to get back in. She is now a successful
business entrepreneur who is passionate about the development of
young people and work related opportunities that help them to aspire
to succeed in the future. Karen began her career with Yellow Pages
and then moved into the media industry in 1991 working for a radio
station in Cornwall, her birthplace, and then progressed to managing
and organising events for several leisure and entertainment venues.
Last year Karen finished her PhD in Business Management which she
says she did it to prove to herself that she could! As an
enthusiastic and dedicated individual, Karen thrives on new
challenges and opportunities and her career path altered in 1995 to
include training and development. For nearly a decade, Karen has
been involved with entrepreneurship and enterprise having the
commitment to create and implement a portfolio of programmes for
young people that are designed to develop employability and
enterprise skills relevant for work-related roles. Employers need
people who want to work and are willing to learn, we do not all
learn in the same way. Some of us Learn by doing it! And that’s
hopefully what we achieve here at the Enterprise and Skills Company.
Everyone can have a go at whatever their learning level. “Everyone
needs an opportunity to find what fits for them.”
Karen is also a Governor of Weymouth College and acts as a private
tutor for AS and A level Business Studies students as well as being
Mum to her partner and 2 young sons. |
