Programme in Brief
Students engage in a practical and creative session building their own Eco (friendly) Home. While exploring roles within the construction industry, students transform dreams into plans building their home to an environmental specification.

Programme Duration
School day finishing at lunch.

Programme Overview
  • An overview of the Quantity Surveying, Building, and Construction industries.

  • Students will be tasked in teams to design an Eco Home of the future using materials provided by ESC.

  • Teams will be required to consider the following:

    • Climate change

    • Resource use

    • Impact on wildlife

    • Provide safe and healthy home with a high quality of life.

  • Teams must plan their choice of materials carefully balancing environmental impact and an aesthetic living space.

  • Teams present their designs and structures persuading the judges to back their Eco Home design.

  • Along the way various challenges (e.g. building a small brick wall) test the teams skills of working together.

Learner Outcomes
Through a practical and hands on workshop, the challenge encourages the cohesion of different student groups and teaches the process of building from design to development. In addition to construction, students will learn about environmental materials and their inherent benefits.
