Programme in Brief

From the boardroom to the frontline students make and sell REAL products to REAL people for REAL money.  This unique opportunity gives students the chance to experience the highs and lows of running a small business with the support of a local business partner.

The Enterprise Challenge
Suitable For
Years 10 & 11 in school only, and mixed group option for years 12 & 13 out of school. Group sizes are a minimum of 6 and a maximum of 12.

Programme Duration
September - February

Programme Overview
  • As part of the process of creating a business, students appoint Directors, name and brand their Company and decide on how to raise starting capital.

  • The newly formed company designs and manufactures an innovative product to sell at local Christmas trade fairs, defining their companies’ success by creating opportunities and meeting deadlines.  

  • Students will also be responsible for the marketing, finance, sales and IT.

  • Post Christmas teams work towards a final company report (reflecting final accounts) and a professional 5 minute PowerPoint presentation.

  • Each company will directly compete against the other student companies in the Enterprise Challenge to win the coveted Bournemouth University ‘Company of the Year Award’ as well as many others sponsored trophies · The programme concludes with a dazzling showcase of talent judged by prominent local business people.

Learner Outcomes
Students will gain maximum benefit of all the essential skills that underpin success in education, employment, lifelong learning and personal development. This programme promotes ‘taking responsibility’, learning from mistakes and preparing students for survival in today’s competitive environment.
